Ensuring that U.S. dialysis patients are able to afford their medical expenses has been the heart of the American Kidney Fund’s mission since its founding 45 years ago. AKF’s need-based programs help patients with health insurance premiums, transportation costs, prescription medications, and many other necessities related to health care.
Two additional AKF resources for patients and their families:
AKF just launched FIRST30, an education program for patients who are new to dialysis. It’s a week-by-week plan for adjusting to dialysis with helpful information including a checklist, and a series of videos featuring patients and professionals. Learn more.
AKF also holds monthly webinars for patients and caregivers. All past webinars are archived for on-demand viewing. A wide range of topics are covered, including treatment options, diet, preparing for transplant, depression, and more. A link to the webinar page.
