Jonathan Himmelfarb, MD

Dr. Jonathan Himmelfarb, MD, is Co-Director of the Center for Dialysis Innovation, Director of the Kidney Research Institute, Joseph W. Eschbach, MD Endowed Chair in Kidney Research, and Professor of Medicine in Nephrology at the University of Washington. He has been a leader in clinical and translational research focused on kidney disease for more than two decades. He has served on numerous grant review committees and scientific advisory boards, and he has held leadership positions in many national and international nephrology societies, including serving as past president of the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Himmelfarb has been a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s subspecialty board on nephrology and an associate editor of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Kidney International, BMC Medicine and the Faculty of 1000 in medicine. He is also a founding member of the Faculty of 1000 in research. Dr. Himmelfarb has served on expert panels for the US Food and Drug Administration, the Veterans Health Administration, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other organizations. He is a member of the external advisory committee for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Duke University O’Brien Center for Kidney Research, and is a member of the internal advisory committee for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases-funded Diabetes Research Center at UW Medicine. Dr. Himmelfarb has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications.
