Sam has been a kidney patient since 1995 when he was diagnosed with kidney disease and started dialysis in 1996. He has been a continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patient twice and has had two kidney transplants at the University of Washington in Seattle. Currently retired, Sam previously served as an executive coach/consultant for Vistage International. Prior to that, he served as Division Manager, Vice President, President and Board Member of Space Applications Corporation – a $30 million aerospace engineering services firm. Sam has executive level experience in the aerospace industry, government contract acquisition and performance. He also co- authored a book on software project management. Sam has applied the experience of his business career to board positions with a number of non-profit organizations. These include serving as board member, president and past president of the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), serving on the inaugural board of the Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) and helping to launch and serve on the initial KHI Patient Family Partnership Council (PFPC).
