Mari Winkler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington. She received her PhD from the Environmental Biotechnology Department at Delft University of Technology (NL) and wrote two dissertations, in the fields of microbial ecology and environmental engineering. Her research focuses on microbial ecology of mixed culture communities, mathematical modeling of microbial interactions, and innovative water reclamation technologies. Dr. Winkler has received several prizes for her work (AEESP outstanding PhD dissertation award, Huber Technology prize, Jaap van de Graaf award, B-IWA industry award, ISME-IWA Biocluster award, Rhurverband water award, Paul Busch award). She has received funding (including DARPA, DOE, NSF, EPA, industrial partners) to advance wastewater treatment technology.
